William Ray Wherry, age 99, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living. Ray was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 1, 1916 to William and Hazel Wherry. He was employed as a certified journeyman tool and die maker starting at the former Willys Overland and eventually retiring over 40 years later from Chrysler Corporation. Ray was a 50 year member of Toledo Fort Industry Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed bowling, fishing at the cottage he built on Vineyard Lake, golfing (the president of the Jeep Golf League numerous years), ice boating on Lake Erie (in his younger days) and spending time with family and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Dorothy Wherry, daughter, Toby Hincher, grandson, Justin Koltoniak, and brother, Joseph Wherry. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Wherry, devoted children, Janice Tucker, Doug (Donna) Wherry, Peggy (Jerry) Koltoniak, son-in-law, Bill Hincher, 16 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.. Rays family would like to thank all of his caregivers at Aspen Grove and Promedica Hospice for the devoted care and attention he received. We are appreciative. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd (419-473-1301) from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, July 20. Masonic service will begin at 7:30 pm on Monday. Funeral service will be in the funeral home at 11:00 am on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.
