Piekutowski, William Bill, 77, born August 1, 1940 in Highland Park, Michigan to Mary (Bowl) and Walter Piekutowski. He was married to his loving wife, Rita (nee Gonnella) for 32 years, having been acquainted with her for 10 years preceding marriage. Survived by sisters Patricia Donaldson, Catherine Stowinsky, brothers Larry, John (Beth), and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law. Gone to meet his parents, brother Thomas, and aunts, uncles, and nephews. Bill retired from Detroit Diesel Corporation Redford Plant where he was involved for many years in UAW Local 163 in Detroit, championing the causes of his fellow workers as committee man. He attained a Skilled Trade Journeyman rank, instrument repair. After retirement in 1996 he served as chairman of Local 163 Retiree Chapter. While still living in Detroit, he was employed in an after-school program with Rita, becoming a role model for many latchkey children. Bill and Rita relocated to Toledo, Ohio in 2007 to live in Ritas childhood home, continuing his UAW activities and duties for several years. He enjoyed memberships in several card clubs, namely Euchre and Pinochle. He and Rita were team bowlers, as well as himself on other teams. He also participated in baseball, on the Over the Hill Gang team as well as in horseshoes. He and Rita enjoyed many outings of tent camping in Michigan State Parks. They enjoyed fishing together and with extended family. Bill spent much of his childhood summers at his parents cottage. He had a special love for the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 at Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo, OH 43610 on September 1, 2017. Private interment to follow at a later date.
