William Alva Frank

William Alva Frank William Alva Frank, age 85 of Toledo, OH passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Blue Creek (Whitehouse Country Manor), Whitehouse, OH. He was born October 7, 1932 to Norman and Martha (Bennett) Frank. Bill graduated from Libbey High School in 1952 where he played football, and soon after enrolled in the Army. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving as a Military Police officer. Upon return to the states, he was a yard conductor for Norfolk & Southern Railroad, retiring in 1986. He also worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation, Lucas County division as an Assistant Superintendent for a few years. Bill married Marcia Beier (Hebbeler) in 1956 and had two children, Sharon Elizabeth (Black) and David Randall Frank. They divorced in 1978 and Marcia preceded him in death in 2015. Bill remarried twice thereafter to Jane Barnard, which ended in divorce in 1984, and Nancy Powers (Frank) who preceded him in death in 2001. Bill lived life to the fullest in his latter years with trips to Las Vegas, NV and Traverse City, MI which he and Nancy visited often. He was a member of the Maumee Elks, Maumee Eagles, and American Legion in Holland, OH. Whomever he met, it was with a big smile. He was happy and joking around, even when things were rough for him. He didn't let his handicap stand in the way Our Dad had a passion for painting, specifically flower pictures. Even with severe arthritis in his hands and wheelchair bound, he painted pictures and enjoyed giving them to those who would appreciate them. His apartment at Waterford at Levis Commons in Perrysburg had over 120 pictures hanging on the walls. He loved to show them off to anyone interested. His signature on all pictures was his initials, "WAF" and "DR" which stood for Delightfully Retired. Bill is survived by his daughter, Sharon E. (Jamie) Black; son, David R. (Robin) Frank; grandchildren, Tyler (See-yin So) Frank, Trevor Frank and Jeremy (Megan) Black. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Thelma Chaplin. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Waterford at Levis Commons while he resided there for several years, the nursing staff at Bay Park Hospital, Oregon, OH for his wonderful care, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, as well as Blue Creek Healthcare (Whitehouse Country Manor) for the last couple months of the exceptional daily care and comfort he so desired and appreciated. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are made through Blanchard Strabler Funeral Home, Toledo, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E.
