Wayne Sumner, Sr.

Wayne Sumner Sr., age 77, of Toledo, OH, passed away on November 8, 2023. Born July 29, 1946, in Gatliff, KY, Wayne moved to the Toledo area when he was eight years old. On August 20, 1966, he married the love of his life, Pamela Symington. They were married for 57 years until the day of his passing. Together they raised two children, Wayne Jr. and Spring.

Wayne was a jack of all trades. He could fix and build just about anything and built two houses himself. He was reliable, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. His family always came first. They were his world. His grandkids, to whom he was “Papa” have fond memories of trips to the ice cream store or the gas station for some Pepsi. He was loved by all and known for his sense of humor and calm demeanor. He will be missed.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Pamela Sumner; children, Wayne (Tracy) Sumner Jr., and Spring Leininger; grandchildren, Thomas Wayne Sumner, Nicole Marie (Nicholas) Geiger, Amber Lynn Sumner, Sabrina Breeze Leininger, and May Jane Leininger; great-grandson, Emmett Geiger; and siblings, Clarence “Bud” Sumner, Milton “Fairly” (Carol) Sumner, Carolyn Ellis, Janice (John) Slifco, and Marilyn Cooper. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward E. Lee Sumner and Ora Lee Sumner.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Walker Funeral Home, Holland-Springfield Chapel, 7438 Airport Hwy, Holland, OH 43528, on Tuesday, November 14, from 10am-2pm, where a funeral service will take place at 2pm. Interment will follow at Springfield Township Cemetery.
