Wayne Eugene Smith

Wayne Eugene Smith was a father, son, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2025.

Wayne was a good-natured person, he had an outgoing personality, so that meant he never met a stranger.

Wayne touched the lives of many people, including his family members. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Every morning around 7:00 a.m. our mom would be awakened by a phone call from Wayne, of course it made her day. The conversation started off by talking about the Lord. That was an important topic for our mom, not just for her children or grandchildren but all her family members and then the conversation went to family and current events.

Wayne ran track and field at Joseph W. Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio. He was an all-State sprinter, always wearing his sunglasses, he won many medals.

Wayne worked at several jobs in Toledo, but his passion was painting at his painting company. You would be able to go anywhere around town and find Wayne with his nerves of steel on a 40-foot ladder, painting someone’s home.

Wayne was also a car enthusiast, he had a passionate interest in automobiles, going beyond simply owning or driving a car. He could name different car makers and models and years by just looking at the cars. Wayne was passionate about Cadillacs, you could say he was a Cadillac enthusiast. At 18 years of age, he worked and purchased his first Cadillac. He also had a love for Jaguars.

Later in life Wayne accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. In Wayne’s own words he said “Without Christ I was losing out but with Christ I have gained everything”

Wayne was a member of the Garden of Prayer Church under Pastor Anthony Smith, his brother. He attended church with his family members.

Wayne was proceeded in death by his wife, Annette Flechman; Father Ervin Smith; stepfather, Dokata Polk; brother Ronnie “Moe” Smith; and his niece, Mary Smith.

He leaves to cherish his mother, Robbie M. Polk; daughters, Katrina Furr (Toledo) Jatuan (Reece) Thrailkill (Illinois)

Sisters, Collie Campbell, Pamela Bethany (Robert); Brothers, Ervin Smith (Gwen); Pastor Anthony Smith (Crystal), All of Toledo, Tyrone Smith (Kristine) of North Carolina and a host of Grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted on Saturday May 3, 2025 at Noon at Garden of Prayer Church, Toledo (1612 Ottawa Dr.), preceded by visitation at 11 AM
