W. James Blanchard, Iii

Wilmer James Blanchard III, 72, a lifelong resident of Toledo, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his children on Wednesday December 23, 2015. Jim was born on March 16, 1943 in Toledo to W. James Bud and Rita (Gloeckler) Blanchard, Jr. He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School; he was a 1961 graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Jim was owner and Funeral Director of Blanchard Brothers Funeral Home for over 50 years. Jim met the love of his life, Janet Kromenacker through Blessed Sacrament and they were happily married for 44 years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3122; an avid bowler and golfer. He participated in the S.P. Jermain Open at Ottawa Park; Senior U.S. Open qualifier and numerous other tournaments. He scored 3 holes in one and 1 Double Eagle. He coached basketball and baseball at St. Agnes and Blessed Sacrament for many years and enjoyed traveling to Vegas and Alaska. Jim is survived by his son, Wilmer J. Blanchard IV (Karen), daughter, Laura Crandall (Brad) and son, Keith Blanchard (Amanda); grandchildren, Lauren, Wilmer J. V., Cecelia, Carson, Nicholas, and Caroline ; sister, Judy Huss; and Special Friend, Sharon Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Janet. Friends will be received at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home (1163 W. Sylvania at Lockwood, 419-269-1111) on Sunday from 2-8 PM, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial, Calvary Cemetery. Special thanks to Morgan and the others at Visiting Angels who took excellent care of Jim over the past few months. Memorial donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
