Vivian “Viv” (Bednar) Rego, 73, of Toledo passed away Monday, May 26, 2025 peacefully with family by her side after an extended period of Hospice care.
Born July 29, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio Vivian graduated class of 1969 from Notre Dame Academy in Chardon, OH. Vivian pursued higher education later in life where she attended and graduated from Owens Technical College in 1992 where she earned a degree in early childhood education. She was a passionate preschool teacher for EOPA Toledo Head Start and Toledo Public Schools for 25+ years until her retirement. She touched many young lives and made an extreme impact in the community she serviced.
Vivian was her children’s biggest cheerleader and in their younger years, could be found sitting in the stands cheering them on. She raised her son and daughter with values and was very proud of the adults they grew into, speaking lovingly of their accomplishments. A friend to many, Vivian never hesitated to help others by lending an ear or shoulder to cry on. She was a compassionate listener and would offer life advice whenever needed, drawing on her own personal experiences. Vivian loved being in nature and enjoyed getting her hands dirty whether pruning rose bushes or planting flowers in her yard. She found joy being near the water and enjoyed annual trips to the Lake Erie Island of Put in Bay.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Sr. and Mary Bednar as well as beloved sister Barbra Rose. She is survived by her son, Michael and daughter, Danielle (David) Kolbenschlag; brother Edward Jr (Patricia) Bednar; and sister Sheri Bednar. Also survived by numerous extended family, and lifelong friends who will miss her dearly.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on June 14th from 10am-1pm at the Ray Neville Chapel at Sunrise Cremations and Funerals 7438 Airport Hwy, Holland, OH 43528. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio staff for their care and compassion in her final days.
