Verla Judy

Verla Gray Judy, age 91, of Walbridge, Ohio passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 15, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Etta Lively; 5 brothers; and her only sister, Velma Cavendish.

Verla Gray Judy was born January 28,1935, in Rainelle, West Virginia. She was one of seven children born to the union of Mack Lively and Etta (Kessler) Lively. She attended Rainelle Rangers High School in Rainelle, West Virginia, graduating with the class of 1954, where she was a First Chair trumpet player.

On May 7,1958, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, she would marry the love of her life, Mr. Lawrence Judy. The couple would celebrate 55 years of marriage before Lawrence’s passing on March 6, 2014. Lawrence and Verla were blessed with one daughter, Charlene.

Verla had a tremendous love of music and a beautiful singing voice that won her a singing contest in Fairmont, West Virginia. She was a self taught pianist who loved old gospel hymns and any song by Patsy Cline. She loved children and spent time working for the church in Jamaica helping families in need. She was a member of the Main Street United Brethren Church for over 40 years where she cherished her role as music director for the children’s choir.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her daughter, Charlene Judy Horen and Charlene’s husband Tom, who was Verla’s favorite son in law.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 3:00pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at Sunrise Cremations and Funerals, 701 North Main Street, Walbridge, Ohio 43465 followed by a procession to Lake Township Cemetery for a 3:30pm graveside service. Pastor Marty Pennington of Main Street United Brethren Church, officiating.

The family would like to Thank Verla’s loving caregiver and friend, Eileen Schnell and Verla’s hospice nurse, Amy for all the wonderful care, love and support they showed Verla and her family.

Mom is ready to see the love of her life.
