Vera Mary Kale Schmidt

Vera Mary Schmidt, 102, passed away October 16, 2010 at the Goerlich Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio. Born in Detroit, Michigan on December 2, 1907, she moved to Chicago, Illinois where she met and secretly married her childhood sweetheart, Henry Schmidt, not telling family members for quite a few months. They enjoyed a wonderful 61 year marriage. As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and taking care of her family. Vera was a fifty year member of Memorial Lutheran Church where she was a Dorcas Society member and enjoyed participating with the church quilting society. Surviving are her son H. William Schmidt (Marie) and daughter Marian Hoffer (Jerry); grandsons Karl, John, Jeremiah and Adrian; and great grandsons Ryland and Sawyer. A celebration of Veras life will be at Memorial Lutheran Church, 3215 Douglas Road, on Saturday October 23rd at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donation in her honor be given to Memorial Lutheran Church.
