Thomas W. Leal

Tom formally of 720 Vance St. passed away peacefully at Communicare at Waterford Commons. He was born to Joseph and Bertha Leal in Toledo, Ohio. Tom attended Trinity Lutheran School and Libbey High School. He retired from the City of Toledo, water division in 2006. Tom is now home with his Dad, Mom, brothers, Dickie, Bobby, Jimmy and sister, Delores. He touched so many lives and hearts with his sweet smile and gentle soul and ready to give a hand out to anyone in need. Tom is survived by his sister, Jackie (John) Howe, who were his care givers, Judy (Ron) Grubinski, Joe (Helen) Leal, along with his many nieces and nephews. Although Tom never had children of his own, he loved and cherished Lori, Lisa, Nick and Tia, who never left his side through his many years of his illness. Tom could keep a conversation going for hours and loved to talk about the old neighborhood, Doo Wop and old friends. Several of his friends would visit on a regular basis and he enjoyed that. Visitation for Tom will be on Monday, April 29 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd, Toledo, Ohio (419-473-1301). Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Forest Cemetery. Thanks to his brother-in-law, John for the years he gave of himself to help care for Tom and would have never had it any other way. Also planning what Tom would have for dinner every night. Thank You to Dr. Smallwood whom Tom had 100% faith in and nurses, aids and friends, Carmen, Tessa, Kequanna, Clem, Carol and others for the best care given to him at Waterford Commons.
