Samuel Schlegel

October 7, 1935 — September 28, 2021

Samuel Snyder Schlegel, age 85, previously of Grand Rapids, OH went on to heaven on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. He was a hard-working man with a great sense of humor, wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was born to Elwood Schlegel and Margaret Snyder on October 7, 1935. Sam grew up in Berks County, Reading PA. and was an active member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Reading where he met his wife, Gloria Jean Ressler. They married on Feb. 4, 1961. He is survived by his son Michael (Pam), son Peter and daughter Samantha Silber (Josh), 7 grandchildren, Tara, Peter Jr., Bobbi Jo, James, Mia, Drew and Trudy and 6 great-grandchildren, Haeley, Dylan, Sophia, Lincoln, Easton and Cruz. He will be remembered as a Marine, veteran of 35 years in the Boys Scouts of America, scoutmaster, restaurant manager, retail manager and dog lover. He attended Penn State University and enjoyed Nascar racing. He worked in retail for over 25 years for various companies: Arlans,Ontario,T.G. & Y, Ames, Lowes and Wal-Mart. Sam also worked over 9 years in restaurant management and food service for Rax and Ponderosa. He was a lifelong Lutheran and was a member of Augsburg Lutheran church in Toledo. He enjoyed the outdoors and going for walks with his dogs Susie and Shelby. He spent his retirement years in Grand Rapids, OH. Sam and Gloria sponsored a bench that overlooks the river in Grand Rapids. We will miss his love, humor and goofiness.
