Russell Shaffer

Russell Orel Shaffer, 87, of Temperance, MI passed away in his home on February 24, 2018. He was born April 13, 1930 in Temperance, MI to Emanuel and Sarah Shaffer. He married Carole Ramey on March 26, 1955. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Russell became an aircraft mechanic retiring from Northwest Airlines in 1992. Russell loved gardening, especially picking strawberries. He loved to work and spend time with both his family and church family. Russell is survived by his wife, Carole; daughters Sarah, Kathleen (James) Sproles and son, Claude; grandchildren, Jason Sproles (Shayna), Bridget Cummings (Jeff), Ryan Sproles and Erik Sproles. He has 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George and sisters, Mae Joly and Katheryn Graham and grandson, Nicholas Sproles. Diagnosed with Parkinsons in 1980, Russell was an inspiration to all who knew him. His faith in God sustained him. He lived his faith, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13. He persevered, never gave up and never complained. Services will be held at Dundee Baptist Church (14040 S. Custer Rd.) Dundee on Wednesday February 28th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dundee Baptist Church or the Parkinsons Foundation of Northwest Ohio
