Robert Eugene Zeh

October 18, 1942 — December 12, 2020

Robert E. Zeh, Sr., 79, of Maumee, passed away on December 12, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Robert was born in Toledo on October 18, 1942 to the late Harvey and Margaret (Rier) Zeh. After graduating from Rogers High School as a part of the class of 1961, he courageously served his country as a member of the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War. In 1965, he met the love of his life, Sharon. She was the one for Robert, and he knew it. Six months after meeting, the two were joined in matrimony in Toledo at Trinity Lutheran Church. Together, they welcomed and raised two children, Teresa and Robert II. As a young man, he worked a paper route to raise enough money to buy a horse. He achieved his goal and caring for the horse only strengthened his hard work ethic. Robert and his wife Sharon belonged to the Snowmobile Club, Spring Valley Saddle Club, Fulton County Horse Council, Lucas County Saddle Club and Harry Hughes Equestrian Center. He had a very strong work ethic, never stopping until the job was done. In his later working years, he was an electrician, starting with his apprenticeship at High Voltage, then coming to fruition at Ford Motor Company, where he worked for nearly 30 years. Once it came time to retire, Robert found enjoyment in a variety of activities. Most notably, he enjoyed kayaking, bike riding, dancing, pickleball, swimming and art classes at the YMCA, and even scuba diving in places like the Grand Cayman Islands and Key Largo. As a bubbly social butterfly, he looked forward to all the mornings he spent at the local McDonald’s drinking coffee with his group of friends; friendships and conversations that meant the world to him. Robert truly never met a stranger, and if he did, always found a way to make a connection and leave having made yet another friend. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order Elks, Maumee Lodge #1850. Above all, Robert loved and valued his family. Spending time with Sharon and his children was everything to him. The energy he had after working long hard days as an electrician were spent providing for anything and everything his family needed. As the crafty handyman that he was, he made sure that nothing went unfixed or incomplete. Left to cherish his memory are his two children, Teresa Roller (Raymond) and Robert Zeh II; his Brother-in-Law Douglas Lybarger; and his Sister-in-Law Suzanne Murphy (Dick). Preceding him in death is the love of his life, Sharon; his parents, Harvey and Margaret; his siblings, William and Jim Zeh, and Dolly Lybarger; his Brother-in-Law, John Gray; and his Father and Mother-in-Law, Cornell and Elouise Gray. Friends will be received on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in Maumee Valley Church, 8715 Garden Road, Maumee, OH 43537. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Toledo Humane Society and the American Cancer Society.
