Robert Dale Sedlmeier, lovingly known as Bob, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was 89 years old.
Born on July 15, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio. Bob was the son of Michael Joseph Sedlmeier and Rose Marie (Huber) Sedlmeier. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance, qualities that would define his character throughout his life.
A graduate of Macomber High School's Class of 1955, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves as a Military Police Marksman. He received an Honorable Discharge on March 11, 1966, carrying with him the sense of duty and integrity that remained evident throughout his life.
Bob's work ethic was remarkable. As a young man, he took on any job that needed to be done, whether it was scrubbing floors and cleaning bathrooms at the High Hat Restaurant, delivering newspapers to more than 250 customers, or lighting roadside smudge pots through the night to help keep travelers safe. He never shied away from hard work and took pride in providing for himself and those he loved.
Throughout his career, Bob earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike. He completed studies through the Ohio School of Banking and enjoyed a successful banking career, serving as an Assistant Treasurer, Account Executive, and eventually Bank Manager at Ohio Citizens Bank. Later, he worked for BP/Standard Oil of Ohio, where he was employed as an EPA Operator until his retirement in 1998. One of his proudest accomplishments came when he courageously saved the lives of two contractors by pulling them from a dangerous area filled with toxic fumes, an act for which he received special recognition.
While Bob's accomplishments were many, his greatest joy began on August 3, 1969 when he married the love of his life, Bonnie McCarty at St. John the Baptist Church in Point Place. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, adventure and unwavering devotion to one another. Their marriage of 58 years was a testament to enduring love, friendship and partnership.
Bob and Bonnie shared a passion for the outdoors and for exploring life's many adventures together. Some of their happiest memories were made on the water aboard their beloved 28-foot wooden Chris Craft Cabin Cruiser, traveling the Canadian waters and enjoying peaceful days around Put-in-Bay. Together they completed the Toledo Yacht Club's Power Squadron boating course, mastering the art of navigation with nothing more than a compass and protractor.
At home, Bob's garden was a labor of love. Family, friends and neighbors looked forward each year to the abundance it produced, from sweat corn and tomatoes to pumpkins, melons, peppers, potatoes,
broccoli, and nearly every kind of bean imaginable. He found deep satisfaction in nurturing things that grew and in sharing the fruits of his labor with others.
Travel was another of Bob and Bonnie's great joys. Together they explored more than 40 states, spending countless days camping at Maumee Bay State Park and enjoying 18 winters in Sebring, Florida. Whether traveling across the country or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home, Bob found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed classic television shows such as M*A*S*H*, Leave it to Beaver, and old Westerns, which often brought him comfort and a smile.
Above all else, Bob will be remembered for his kindness, dependability, quiet strength, and genuine love for those around him. He was a devoted husband, a treasured brother and uncle, a loyal friend and a man whose actions consistently reflected his generous heart. The examples he set through his hard work, humility and commitment to family will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael J. and Rose Marie Sedlmeier.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 58 years, Bonnie Sedlmeier; his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Robert Uddin; his niece, Adrienne (David) Skarupa and his nephew, Braden (Jill) Uddin; four great nieces, 1 great nephew and his devoted caregiver, Grace; and many dear friends whose love and support meant so much to him and his family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the friends, caregivers, and loved ones who offered support, prayers, and companionship throughout Bob's life and especially during his final days.
Though he will be deeply missed, Bob's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Bob will lie in state from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner Street, Walbridge, Ohio 43465. The Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 10:30 am. A procession will follow to Lake Township Cemetery for burial.
