Robert G Fair, Sr.

March 31, 1925 — January 9, 2021

Robert G. Fair, Sr., age 95, of Walbridge, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Bob was born in Columbus, Ohio in March of 1925 to Curby and Grace (Hill) Fair. He graduated from Steinmetz High School (Chicago) in January, 1943. Bob met Evelyn Enochs at church in Chicago and they married on May 19, 1951. They had two children, Robert Jr., and Roberta. Bob was a member of the Greatest Generation. He joined the U.S. Navy in June, 1943, discharged in March, 1946, and was stationed on Guam. He worked at the Naval Operating Base, NOB 926. Bob was so proud to have had the privilege of serving his country during World War II. Bob began working for the Pennsylvania Railroad shortly after his return from World War II and was a valued railroad employee until his retirement in 1987. His roles were many and varied and was transferred to several cities in his long career. His job moved him to Toledo in 1966. Bob was a devoted servant of God who loved the Lord, his family and friends, and his church. He was a member of First Alliance Church, Toledo, since 1966 and served willingly and well in various capacities over time. He played his violin in the orchestra, helped to produce the Tabernacle hour Weekly Radio Broadcast, and also served as Trustee. He loved attending his small group on Sunday evenings. As a volunteer at ProMedica Bay Park Hospital, Bob continued to contribute to his community after retirement. He couldn’t wait for his volunteer days to come. He was known as the “candy man” passing out candy to everyone he met. Bob was known by everyone who knew him for his kindness, caring, sense of humor, generosity, and dedication. His deep Christian faith was an example, even during his illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; and brother, Dale (Jessie). Bob is survived by son, Robert G., Jr. (Kari); daughter, Roberta; and niece, Christina. Visitation for Bob will take place on Friday, January 15, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 701 N. Main Street, Walbridge, OH (419-666-3121).
