Robert Benson

Robert Benson, age 91 of Temperance, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born in Findlay, Ohio on June 13, 1920 to Virgil and Lydia Benson. He was their last surviving son. Robert was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving during WW II. He was a member of the Marine Corp. for 33 years, retiring in 1974 as a 1st. Sgt. Robert was employed at the former Page Dairy for many years. He was a member of Lou Diamond Marine Corp. League, Fort Industry Masonic Blue Lodge, 32nd degree Mason, Templar Knight, O Ton Ta Ta Grotto, Shriners and Bob was also a Boy Scout leader for troop #68. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Lydia Benson, brothers, Everett, Howard, and Donald. Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Dorothy Benson, daughter, Joyce Turney of Valrico, Florida and Robert Benson Jr. of Sylvania, Ohio. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and 2 great-great granddaughters. Visitation for Robert will be at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd (at Alexis) 419-473-1301 on Wednesday, October 19 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, October 20 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
