Robert L. Batdorff (Bob), age 90 passed away peacefully in Hilliard, Ohio on 6/22/2022 after a lengthy battle with dementia and cancer.
He was born on August 8, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio, and is preceded in death by his parents Jonah and Dorothea, his wife Judith (Oravec) after 62 years of marriage, and sons David (Robin) and Daniel (Heidi), brothers Karl, Donald, Richard, and Kenneth. He is survived by his younger brother Franklin as well as his daughter Dana (Dean) Hahn, three grandchildren Kyle, Ross, and Quinten.
Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corps, Fox Company, during the Korean war conflict of 1950 – 1953 where he was captured during the battle at the Chosin Reservoir and endured 33 months of starvation and tortured as a P.O.W. The battle was so fierce with so many casualties the survivors are nicked named the “Chosin Few”.
After his release when the armistice was signed he returned home to Toledo and married his high school sweetheart in 1954 and started his family. He had quite a few jobs and sometimes two at a time working in tire stores. However, after going to night school in the early 1970’s he became a computer operator for Cooper Tire and Rubber of Findley, Ohio, then later the Operations Manager of Data Processing at The Andersons of Maumee, Ohio.
However, it was in 1975 that his spiritual life of serving Jehovah God (Ps 83:18) began. At that time he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and to his last day served him faithfully as best he could (Neh 13:31). And, like all of Jehovah’s friends earth wide, he looked forward to and took much comfort in the time when the resurrection to paradise on earth takes place (Ps 37:9, 10, 11, 29; Acts 24:15; John 5:28, 29; and Rev 21:3-5) to be reunited with family and friends.
His long life was blessed by Jehovah having a loving, faithful wife, children and their spouses, and all grandchildren serving Jehovah in addition to taking good care of him while he endured his last days.
Father will always be remembered for his love for others by his generous and helpful spirit shown toward family, friends, and the preaching of the “Good News of the Kingdom” to his neighbors, his huge vegetable garden, winemaking, homemade sauerkraut, love for animals including his Labrador retrievers, and all the home improvement projects he worked on over the years.
He much appreciated the care and active interest everyone at Darby Glenn Nursing and Rehabilitation had for him.
All their kind words meant a lot.
Friends and family will be received at the Kingdom Hall of The Jehovah’s Witness on 224 Lemoyne Rd. Northwood, Ohio 43619 Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 1 PM with private graveside to follow in Lake Twp. Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jehovah’s Witnesses through www.donate.jw.org or Central Ohio’s Programs for Animal Welfare, www.copaw.org.
