Robert L. Baker, 80, of Walbridge, died June 5, 2022 at St. Charles-Mercy Hospital. He was born in Walbridge on February 21, 1942 to Joseph & Mary Baker. Bob was a 1960 graduate of Lake High School. He was a pipefitter and pneumatics instructor at the G.M. Powertrain plant, retiring in 1997. Bob was extremely proud of his family and was known as a local historian – sharing his knowledge about the history of Walbridge and Lake Township with so many. He enjoyed genealogy and authored a chapter on Cummings, Ohio in “A History of Lake Township Wood County, Ohio”. Bob was a Boy Scout Leader and was a loyal fan of the Lake Flyers and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Bob married Elizabeth R. Glickert, who survives, on June 22, 1963 and would soon celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary. Surviving are his daughter, Kristin (Jeffry) Swartz, daughter-in-law Sherry Baker and sister, Janice Baker. Also surviving are his grandchildren Zachary and Abigail Baker, Benjamin (Miranda) Swartz, Katherine (Brandon) Payeff, and Rebekah Swartz and great grandchild Elijah Swartz. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael, brothers Ronald and Richard and mother and father-in-law, Fredrick and Irene Glickert.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the providers and staff at the Genoa Retirement Village and to Monica and Shelly at St. Charles Mercy Hospital for their compassionate care.
Friends will be received in the Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home 701 N. Main St. Walbridge, Ohio 43465 (419-666-3121) on Friday, June 10, 2022 from 2-8 PM with a Funeral Mass to follow on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10 AM in St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner St. Walbridge, Ohio, where the family will receive guests after 9:30 AM. Father Eric Schild officiating.
Private burial will be in Lake Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Lake Athletic Boosters or St. Jerome Catholic Church.
