Richard Joseph Koelsch

Richard Joseph Koelsch, 67, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at his home in Toledo, Ohio. He was born on December 10, 1953 to LeRoy and Velma Koelsch, the sixth of their eight children. Rich graduated Central Catholic High School, Class of 1971. He played on the chess team, a game he remained passionate about. He attended the Community & Technical College at the University of Toledo, earning an associate degree. He enlisted in the US Army in 1973 and he served stateside until he was sent to Augsburg, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1978 and remained in the US National Guard. He later worked in the IT Dept. at Owens-Illinois. He also enjoyed playing video games and had a keen sense of humor. Richard is survived by his gentle step-daughter, Tonya (Bill) Kelley; step-son Rick Elsea; granddaughter Sammie (Jalen) Brown; great-grandson Zaire; brothers, Nick (Carolyn), Michael (Anna), Dan (Connie), Tim (Anna), and Kevin (Barb); sisters, Rita (Don) Kincaid and Patti (Chuck) Schmitt; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his devoted wife, Sandy, and his parents. The family would like to especially thank Tonya and Bill for caring for Rich.
