Raymond J. Zomkowski, age 80, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Flower Hospital. He was born in Toledo on July 15, 1929 to Julian A. and Frances (Adamski) Zomkowski. He attended Scott and DeVilbiss High Schools, was a graduate of the University of Toledo. Raymond was employed with DeVilbiss Company in the shipping department for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Raymond was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WW II, Occupation Army in Augsburg, Germany, until his discharge in 1957. He was a member of St. Hedwig Church for many years. It was there that he married Mildred Johnson Allred on July 9, 1976. Ray enjoyed family gatherings, playing golf and darts, and was a big fan of both football and baseball. He also enjoyed dancing, traveling, gardening, reading and listening to music. Ray was a member of the U. of T. Alumnae Assoc. a member of the U. of T. retirees, Flower Hospital Auxiliary and the Polish Natl. Alliance. He did volunteer work at Red Cross, Blood Draws, Habitat for Humanity, FOCUS, and other community organizations. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Mildred, of 33 years, sister, Virginia Zomkowski, brother, Norman (Carol) Zomkowski, sister-in-law-Bernice Zomkowski, nephews, Norman, Michael and Ronald (Dawn) Zomkowski, niece, Sharon Zomkowski, a great niece and great nephew. Ray also leaves step-sons, David and Dennis Johnson, two step-grandchildren, two great step-grandchildren, and many cousins.Visitation will be at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd, Toledo (419-473-1301) on Thursday, August 20, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday.
