Julia A. (Lehmann) Hyter, age 98, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away, Sunday, April 5, 2009 at West Toledo Health Care. She was born in Steinach, Germany on October 9, 1910 to Julius and Christiane (Blessing) Stahl. Her family moved to Bucyrus, Ohio when Julia was 2 years old and moved to Toledo after WW I. As a young girl Julia attended Crabb School, a one room schoolhouse, at Alexis and Telegraph. She attended Sunday School at Alexis Congregational Church and later become a member. Julia was always ambitious with several jobs, Walkers Store, Brauns Store, her paper route, Slaytons Greenhouse, Jay Essex, making and selling paper flowers. She also learned how to hang wall paper and worked at Hass Jordan, making umbrellas. After WWII she was employed at Gordons Mfg. Co., Martin Perry Comp. and even had a Jewell Tea Route. In 1927 she married Fred W. Lehmann and was the parents to son, Charles Lehmann. She married Gerald E. Hyter. Together they build and started their own business, Hopewell Radio and TV repair. Julia stared her part with pottery and lawn ornaments. As time went on they included souvenirs, gifts, some groceries and 1c penny candy. Julia got be known by the kids as the Candy Lady. Gerald passed away in 1990 and she braved the business alone with break-in, robberies and hold-ups until she was 97 years old, when illness forced her to quit. Well, not quite!!! She sold T-shirts in the nursing home. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerald Hyter, grandson, Kenneth Lehmann, siblings, Paul Stahl, Fred Stahl, Amelia Paulum, William Stahl, Robert Stahl and Rudy Stahl.She is survived by her, son, Charles (Vera) Lehmann, grandchildren, Charles A. Lehmann, James (Angela) Lehmann, Lori (Larry) Pinkerman, stepchildren, Frank (Inge) Hyter, Dorothy (Alton) Hallaur, great-grandchildren Kimberly Lehmann, Nicholas White, Megan White, Melanie Pinkerman, Marcie Pulver, step grandchildren, siblings, John Stahl, Charles Stahl, and Anna Yost. Visitation will be at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd. (at Alexis) 419-473-1301 on Tuesday, April 7 from 4:pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 pm on Wednesday. Interment at Heath Cemetery, Liberty Center, Ohio.
