December 18, 1943 — January 5, 2024

In Loving Memory of Melvin R. GoppBorn: December 18, 1943 in Beach City, OhioMelvin R. Gopp, a beloved soul who touched the lives of many, met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 5, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of his family and home, after bravely facing and gracefully accepting the challenge posed by cancer.Melvin, or Mel Go-p-p as many affectionately knew him, was born to Lester E. Gopp and Hazel Della Grimminger in Beach City, Ohio. He joined his heavenly family, reuniting with his parents, daughter Bobbi Jo Clark, brother Lawrence, sisters Geraldine Neff and Jane Hughes, and wife Lana M.(Cline) Gopp.Mel leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished by his devoted wife of 19 years, L.Sue (McGarry) Gopp, his sons Clayton and Joshua, daughters Mindy (Andy) Hartman, Stella Cline, and Tammi (Christopher) White. He is also survived by his grandchildren Corey Gopp, Ty (Tonya) Hartman, Danielle (Alex) Richardson, Brandon White, Marissa (Robbie) Wilson, Angie Barboza, Jami Lynn Gopp, Casey Gopp, Joey (Samantha) Barboza, Jacob & Alana Sulewski, Kamyrn & Cooper White, and Bentley Gopp, along with 13 great-grandchildren and many beloved family members. His life was marked by resilience and service, having served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of E-5, Petty Officer Second Class. His commitment extended beyond his military service, as he faithfully served Hope Baptist Church for 30 years, contributing as an Usher, Sunday School teacher, and dedicated organizer of Veteran's Appreciation events.A man of diverse talents beyond mechanics, Mel was more than a jack-of-all-trades. He raced cars, drove truck, and was a small business owner. A master fisherman, he found his true joy on the waters of Lake Erie. His love for the lake was evident when he shared the experience with all who asked, and it's quite possible the schools of walleye and perch knew him by name! The soothing sound of waves and the thrill of the catch were integral parts of the bond he shared with family and friends. In the professional realm, Mel established M&R Repair in Toledo and later joined Shrader Tire & Oil, where he served as the Director of Maintenance, showcasing his dedication to hard work and excellence.Mel's enduring legacy is not only in his accomplishments but in the way he loved fiercely and lived by the mantra, "Work hard, Do right, Love God." As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. As Mel is reunited with loved ones who have gone before, we find comfort in knowing we will see him again.Friends will be received on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home (3219 Tremainsville @ Alexis, 419-269-1111) from Noon until 8 P.M.
