Lucille Mae Smith

Lucille Mae Smith, known affectionately as Lucy, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024, in Perrysburg, Ohio, at the age of 79. Born on September 4, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, to John and Shirley DeStazio, Lucy grew up in a loving family and attended Harris-Elmore primary school followed by Harris-Elmore High School.


Lucy dedicated over six decades of her life to a fulfilling career as an insurance agent, demonstrating unwavering commitment and care to her clients. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Walbridge, Ohio, where she found great solace and community.


Lucy was an avid Cleveland (Indians) Guardians fan as well as a staunch follower of The Ohio State Buckeyes and Notre Dame Irish Football.


Lovingly referred to as “Aunt Boo” by her nephew Dean, Lucille was also a devoted surrogate grandmother to his two children, Jonathan (“Cheese”) and Sophia DeStazio, whom she loved deeply.


Lucy's kind and warm-hearted nature was evident in her personal life as well. She was a devoted mother, sister, and friend, always prioritizing the needs of those around her. Her hobbies included gardening, landscaping, and solving jigsaw puzzles, activities that reflected her meticulous and nurturing character.


Lucy is survived by her son, Jeff Smith; her brother, Deacon John DeStazio; grand pup, Pavel and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Smith; her parents, John and Shirley DeStazio; and her sister, Suzanne DeStazio.


A visitation for Lucy will be held on Friday evening, August 16, 2024, from 2:00pm-8:00pm at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home in Walbridge, Ohio. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in her honor on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00am at St. Jerome Catholic Church, with prayers at the funeral home beginning at 10:15am before processing to church for mass. All who knew Lucy are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in memory of Lucille Mae Smith. The family extends their gratitude to Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home for their compassionate assistance during this difficult time.
