Louise Reamey

May 13, 1926 — April 19, 2023

Ella Louise (Brooks) Reamey, age 96, of Toledo, OH, beloved mother, grandmother and matriarch of the Brooks/Reamey family passed away at home peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. She was born May 13, 1926, in Toledo, OH to John Brooks and Luella Beatrice Keye.

Louise attended Seegar and Westfield Elementary Schools, Jones Junior High School and Whitney Vocational High School where she studied textiles and dressmaking. This would become her passion and lifelong career.

In 1944, during her senior year of high school, while visiting a friend, young Ella Louise met Monroe James Reamey. Monroe was immediately smitten with young Ella Louise. Later that spring, Ella Louise traveled to St. Louis to visit Monroe. It was at this time that Monroe wrote and asked permission from Ella’s mother for her hand in marriage. With her mother’s blessing they married on April 8, 1945, in St. Louis, MO. Over the next seven years they would spend time in St. Louis, Chicago, Indiana and lastly, Toledo in 1952. After working for a number of garment factories and embroidery shops, Louise became a homemaker and part-time seamstress. Soon, her work on wedding dresses, formals and custom-made clothing had Louise in high demand.

In October 1973, Louise’s husband, Monroe, died, and she was left to raise their three sons alone. To pay for their private schooling, she became the cook at the Toledo SDA Church School, where her three sons attended. Louise worshiped at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, Toledo SDA Church, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, The Church in Birmingham and finally Redemption Church in Monclova, OH. Louise expressed her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and looked forward to being with Him and reuniting with loved ones who passed in faith into eternity.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, John Brooks and Luella Beatrice Keye; husband, Monroe Reamey; their son, Maurice; brothers, Chester Alford Woffard and Ozzie Brooks; sister, Johnnie May Brooks-Jones; and daughter-in-love, Delphia Esters. She is survived by her sons, Steven Reamey, David (Donna) Reamey, Donald (Julie) Reamey; grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Esters, Jordan and Erin Reamey, Jasmyne Jada Williams and grand-doggy “Dora;” special niece and friend, Cheryl “Christine” Jones, and many more beloved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 3-6 pm and on Monday, April 24, 2023, 10-11 am at Walker Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Hwy, Holland, OH.
