Loretta Ann Toth, 84, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Her room had the perfect view of Central Catholic High School, where she attended and was later employed. As a Central Catholic graduate of the class of 1960, it was serendipity that she spent her last days so close to where it all began.
She was born on September 14, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, and spent a long life serving her community in various ways. One community staple that she held especially close to her heart was the Girl Scouts. Known as “Charlie” in her early scouting years and later in life as “Mom,” she served as a leader for numerous troops and was a safe haven for so many of her daughters’ friends. She was active in local schools not only as a Girl Scout leader, but also as PTA president, tutor, and library volunteer. She poured her time and energy into loving others “out loud.” As for employment, she worked various jobs over the years—including as a show dog trainer, for the Board of Elections, and as manager of the Collingwood Arts Center—but none was more memorable than the trucking line where she met the love of her life.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 62 years and served her community alongside her sorority sisters. After retiring to Tucson, Arizona, she joined a legacy chapter, continued her community service, and earned her Diamond Award for 60 years of service. Lori was a lover of the arts and enjoyed holding annual Broadway season tickets, taking in shows with her husband and her girls.
As if all of her love and service over the years wasn’t enough, she enjoyed her later years as the best Nana on earth. Lori loved being a Nana; her face would glow and her smile would grow whenever she spent time with her grandchildren or simply bragged about them to anyone who would listen. Thank you, Lori, for loving us!
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Toth; their children, Jodi Toth and Shelly (Mike) Dandino; grandchildren, Brooklynn Toth and Ella Dandino; chosen grandchildren, Diego and Selena Barboza; siblings, Pat (Judy) McCarthy, Kathy (Dave) Thomas, and Mike (Beth) McCarthy; nieces and nephews, Ken, Steve, Shawn, Shannon, Jennifer, Molly, and Neal; and her chosen sister and best friend, Evelyn Appley (aka Aunt Evey).
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 3:00-7:00 pm at Ray Neville Chapel at Sunrise Cremations & Funerals, 7438 Airport HWY, Holland, Ohio. A Funeral Service will be held on October 17, 2026, at 1:00 pm, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to be made to Girl Scouts of the USA, so that more girls can experience the care and adventure that Lori held so close to her heart.
