Larry J. Hunkapiller

Larry J. Hunkapiller, 67, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022.  He was born in Toledo to Edward and Betty (Bracken) Hunkapiller on August 7, 1954.  He worked as a truck driver since 2009 with K-Ltd Trucking. During this time, Larry was able to travel the country and took great pleasure in being able to take in all the beautiful scenery.  He spent the majority of the time listening to books on tape while he drove truck across the country.  He enjoyed watching all sporting events, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. He dedicated himself to being the McGregor Stallions baseball coach for 6 triumphant years and coached McGregor basketball for 2 years.  Larry loved riding his Harley whenever he had time outside of the truck and would love to pull up and visit his grandchildren while out for a ride.  He enjoyed eating great food, whether it was at Ahmed’s Steak House or a great home cooked meal, he could always be found afterwards with a toothpick in his mouth.

Larry is survived by his children; Brad (Frances) Hunkapiller, Lyndsey Zielinski, and Zach Ludwig; grandchildren, Bradley Jr., Blake, Jase, Naomi, Leighton; mother, Betty Hunkapiller; brother, Phil (Tami) Hunkapiller; nephews, Luke and Alex; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Hunkapiller; and father, Edward Hunkapiller.

Friends are invited to visit on Saturday, January 29, 2022, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home – Holland-Springfield Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio 43528 (419-865-8879), until the time of Funeral Service at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be private.  Those attending are encouraged to wear their favorite Ohio State or Harley Davidson clothing, just as Larry would want.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to BikerDown.org.
