Kenneth Philip Gibbs

KENNETH PHILIP GIBBS Passed away peacefully on July 11, 2015 at age 95. Born June 11, 1920 in Toledo, Ohio, to Elsie and Percy Gibbs, Kenneth graduated from Whitmer High School in 1939 and attended Bowling Green State University before joining the United States Navy in 1943, where he served three years as an aviation machinist. He worked for several local companies such as Quimby Material, Allied Gear and Sprocket and Lachmiller Electric Motor Repair and was a member of Sylvania-Pyramid Lodge 287, Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio for over forty years. His interest and ability to repair many different machines and motors led him to employment with the Peace Corps and the Social Development Commission in Kingston, Jamaica and Liberia, West Africa, where he set up mechanics training facilities. Ken was predeceased by his sister Irene Sharp and is survived by his nephew Richard Sharp and three nieces, Gay Rene Homer, Sandra Lord and Elizabeth Marbach. Also included are his great niece Judy Sharp and great nephews John and Jeff Sharp, Garrett and Dustin Lord and long-time friend Linda Bradner. A Catholic Mass will be held for Kenneth in Jamaica and in accordance with his wishes, his ashes will be taken to Blue Mountain Peak in Jamaica. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 3 until 7PM with the Celebration of Life with Military Honors at 7PM with Fr. Robert Sheperd, Celebrant at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home, 1163 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo. 419-269-1111 Arrangements under the direction of Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home, Toledo, OH.
