Kathleen Anne Flickinger Potter, age 86, passed away at Flower Hospital on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, following a short illness.Kathleen was born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 1, 1938, to the late Richard and Ethel Morrissey. She was the oldest of fourteen children.She was married to Vernon G. Flickinger from 1958-1997. Following his death, she then married Richard Potter in 2008, and relocated to New Jersey until his death in 2011. She then moved back home to Toledo.Kathleen accepted Christ as her Savior as a young adult and served Him faithfully throughout her entire life. She was a lifelong member of Lewis Avenue Baptist Church, where she excelled in service. Among other things, she was a popular public speaker, using both humor and wisdom to teach and mentor many women over the years. She loved reading and was a wonderful writer, producing monthly articles in The Handmaiden, a Christian womens publication. She co-authored a book with her daughter Becky, Better Homes and Children.Teaching children was her passion! She wrote hundreds of childrens Sunday School lessons, taught in several childrens ministries, started summer Bible Clubs in neighborhoods all around the Toledo area, and led dozens upon dozens of little ones to know the Lord. Countless 5-year-olds learned from Mrs. Flickinger during her 35 years of teaching kindergarten at State Line Christian School. Her legacy and influence with children simply cannot be underestimated.Kathleen never lost an opportunity to encourage someone. She was always positive, helpful, and kind. Even after her retirement, she scheduled many hours weekly and drove many miles to visit and encourage shut-ins. She faithfully continued this until she could no longer drive.Kathleen was preceded in death by four of her siblings, Neill, Colleen, Terry, and Ellen. Surviving to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Rebecca (Daniel) Yglesias and Lucinda (George) Spurling. Also surviving are nine remaining siblings: Anne (Bob) Hardy, and the Morrissey brothers Rick (Pat), Larry (Judy), Ed (Karen), Jim (Nancy), Bob (Jo), Alan (Kathie), John (Kathy), and Tom (Sue); and her brother-in-law Bob Keaton. Kathleen is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and dozens of nieces and nephews.Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 12, at the Lewis Avenue Baptist Church, 6320 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, 48182. There will be visitation from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on that same day at the church. Entombment (for those who wish to attend) will take place on the following day, Friday, September 13, at 11:30 am, at the Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, 4210 W. Central Avenue, Toledo, OH, 43606.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lewis Avenue Baptist Church or State Line Christian School, both of which held a special place in Kathleens heart.
