Karen R. Cook

Karen R. Cook, age 75 of Toledo, Ohio, left this world surrounded by her family Saturday, January 30, 2010. She was born on September 11, 1934 in Toledo to Matthew and Hazel Koster. Karen was employed at Krogers for 39 years until retiring in 1999. She loved boating, fishing, puzzles, her job, Christmas, and music. Karen was a member of the River View Yacht Club, the 606 VFW post, Conn-Wisenberger American Legion 587 post, and the Scott High school reunion committee. Her zest for life could be seen whether she was Jitter Bugging on the dance floor or laughing over one of her good glasses of wine. Karens kind and nurturing nature gave many the impression of a living angel. Her many friends and family would say to know her was to be blessed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Hazel Koster, step-mother Lucy Koster, grandson Ralph Behlmer, brother, Richard (Rose) Koster, and sister-in-law, Millie Koster. Karen is survived by her beloved husband of 55 wonderful years, James N. Cook, children, James M. (Debra) Cook, Lynn (Keith) Johnston, Laurie (Rick) Ewing, and Daniel Cook, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, brothers Donald (Lena) Koster, and Daniel Koster. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Northwest Ohio Hospice for their loving care.Visitation for Karen will be at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd. (419-473-1301) on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 2 to 8 pm a rosary service will start at 7 pm followed by a River View Yacht Club service that night. Prayers will start in the funeral home on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 9:15 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St Clement Catholic Church, 3030 Tremainsville Rd. 10am.
