Junella Mae Swaney

Junella June M. Swaney (Nee: Hamp) of Toledo, Ohio passed away from this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, January 14, 2011. June was born April 14, 1932 at Cedar Lake, Michigan to Elmore W. and Almeda (Dunlap) Hamp. She lived in Jackson, Michigan for eleven years graduating from Jackson High School in 1950. Shortly after graduating June enlisted in the Womens Army Corp. (WACs). June met her husband, Elmer C. Swaney, Jr. while in the service, they married and after being discharged made their home in Pittsburgh, PA for 20 years where their four sons were born. The family moved to Toledo in June 1971. June was employed by Seaway Carpets, Poole Distributing for five years. December 1976 she joined the staff of the Toledo Blade, retiring May 1991. July 1993 to June 1997 she worked part time at Bill Knapps on Monroe St. She was an active member of the NACM Credit Womens Group from 1972 to 1982 and was the recipient of the Credit Person of the Year Award in 1980. She served as the Chairman of The Blade-Times Retiree Group 1992-1993. An active member of Mayfair-Plymouth Congregational Christian Church since 1978 she served on various boards and was in September Fellowship, Womans Fellowship, and Partners with Christ . She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer Curt Swaney in 1985 and her brother, Gary V. Hamp, of Jackson, MI in 2009. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law; Elmer Curtis III (Lana) of Rockford, IL., Gary L. (Amy) of Bowling Green, OH., Robert J. (Cindy) of Ottawa Lake, MI., and Michael A. Swaney of Downers Grove, IL. Grandchildren: Shawn, Alison, Christopher (Cassi), Michael C., Robert J. Jr. (Erika), Rachel and Quinn Swaney. Five Great Grandchildren. Visitation for June will be at H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd 419-473-1301 on Wednesday, January 19 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00am Thursday at Mayfair-Plymouth Church, 5253 Bennett Rd. Toledo, Ohio. Interment will take place at Jefferson Park Cemetery, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
