Jon Herbert Wilson

Jon Herbert Wilson, 80, of Toledo, Ohio passed peacefully in his sleep November 29, 2019. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 2, 1939 to John H. and Estella (Averitt) Wilson and was in the first graduating class of Roger’s High School in 1957. He enlisted first in the United States Navy and later joined the Army. After serving in the United States Military Liaison Mission near Berlin, Germany, and starting a family, he returned to civilian life in Toledo, serving as a Police Officer and a TARTA Bus Driver. Several years later, he returned to the military as a full-time member of the Ohio Army National Guard from which he retired at the rank of Sergeant-First Class. Jon married twice, first to Carola Sternheim, who gave him daughters Pamela and Kristine and then to Linda Cole, who gave him twin sons, Sean and Shannon. He was an avid carpenter specializing in saw-dust, a collector of military memorabilia, an amateur genealogist, and enjoyed reading novels set in the military theater and the American Wild-West. He was a generous man, proud of his country and his service to his fellow citizens. He received several awards from the state of Ohio and the National Guard for his selfless action of rescuing a man whose automobile had crashed over an embankment and caught fire. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Law, Kristine (Ken) Ludwig, and his sons, Sean (Heidi) Wilson and Shannon (Katie) Wilson, brothers, Paul (Elizabeth) and Zane; grandchildren, Karmann, Kendall, Karl Ludwig, Kennedy and Colin Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law, Nancy Wilson. He will be interred beside his parents at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park following a grave-side service at 10:00 am on Friday, June 19, 2020.
