John A. Urso, age 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away at Toledo Hospital on August 3, 2009. He was born on June 24, 1926 to Carmen and Rose Urso. John was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He attended West Virginia University and graduated from Fairmont State College with a BA in Education. John retired from General Motors in 1986 after 32 years in the personnel department, for many years serving as Director of Education and Training at Chevrolet Hydramatic. He was an avid reader, an accomplished writer, poet and speaker. After retirement, he and his wife, Ruth, enjoyed spending the winter months in Bradenton, Florida. In spite of physical challenges later in life, he remained optimistic, and his positive outlook on life was an inspiration to all who knew him. John was a active member of St. Clement Catholic Church for 50 years. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth, daughter, Lucia (Jerry) Welch, son, John (Bonnie), daughters, Rosanne Macut, Ruth Ann (Harvey) Eagleston, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Carmen (Judy) and Alfred (Linda), sister, Margaret and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be in H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd, Toledo, Ohio (at Alexis) 419-473-1301 on Wednesday, August 5, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a rosary service to begin at 7:00 pm. Funeral services are on Thursday August 6, beginning in the funeral home with prayers at 9:15 am to follow with Mass of the Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Clement Catholic Church, 3030 Tremainsville Rd. Memorial contributions may be given in Johns name to The American Heart Association.
