John Marinelli, age 90, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2011, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio at Perrysburg. John was born on January 15, 1921 to Italian immigrants Mary and Frank Marinelli in Toledo, Ohio. John is a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran where he was a flight instructor. Following the Navy, he continued his love of flying as a private pilot until becoming the owner of Darkinson Doors. His love for adventure was fulfilled racing sailboats and pleasure cruising on the shores of Lake Erie. He was an emeritus member of North Cape Yacht Club where he was commodore in 1978. Known for his tenacity as a businessperson, he designed and built a stainless steel keel, and developed block outs and railroad ties using recycled materials. John is preceded in death by his parents; his loving and wonderful wife of 63 years, Marge Marinelli, brother, Tom Marinelli and daughter in law, Debbie Marinelli. John is survived by his sister, Grace Marinelli, children; Mike Marinelli, Marty (Dolly) Marinelli, Tim Marinelli, Kathy (John) Reichow, Pat (Rick) Fowler, Pete (Cathy) Marinelli, Chris Marinelli, Grace Ann (George) Flanner, Becky (Mark) Delp, Monica Michael, Rodney (Jennifer) Marinelli and Meg (Gene) Cornell along with 36 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, sister in law Phyllis Marinelli. At his request, visitation will be for immediate family and Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio. Memorial Contributions may be made in John's name to H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home in Trilby, to Perrysburg Hospice or The American Cancer Society .
