John was born on October 17, 1948 He resided in West Des Moines, Iowa and he died on February 1, 2022. He grew up in Walbridge, Ohio and graduated from Lake High School and Penta County Vocational School in 1967. He then served in the U. S. Coast Guard for 4 years. John joined Champion Spark Plug’s Toledo plant in 1974. In 1989 he and his family moved to Iowa, where he retired from Champion in 2005. Several post-retirement jobs were as a security guard for CSC and ambassador at Willis Auto.
John and his wife Peggy married in 1970, and their brightest joy was their son, John Jr.
John was in several bands growing up and throughout the years. His strong beautiful voice was unmistakable, and his skills as a drummer exceptional. But most people who knew John remember the smiley bubbly guy who made life fun. John, like his mother, became an excellent cook, with every gadget imaginable to make cooking fun. He was a fan of the Toledo Goaldiggers (remember their mascot Golddust Gus?), the Denver Broncos and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The world will not be the same without this good, wonderful, fun person who lighted up a room.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia Englehart, and son, John Jr. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and grandson, John James Englehart, and brother, Jack Englehart.
