James Stechschulte

December 16, 1951 — October 2, 2016

James W. Stechschulte's valiant nine year battle with cancer finally ended peacefully on October 2, 2016, in Mercy-St. Vincent Hospital, while surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born December 16, 1951, the third child of Eugene and Wilma Stechschulte in Toledo, Ohio. Jim married Patricia Malloy and that union produced three cherished gifts to our family in their children, James Jr., Dawn, and Kevin. Jim worked in the transportation and railroad industry until his health caused him to retire early. He loved to hunt and fish and especially enjoyed the many fishing trips with his brother Jon. Jim was predeceased by the mother of his children, Patricia; his parents and grandparents; and his best friend, Tom Kremnec. He is survived by his brothers, Gary (Diann), Jon (Sue), Gregory, St. Lake City, UT; sister, Margaret Lee, Cromwell, CT; his granddaughter, Marissa; his best friend, Dan O'Connor, and his loyal dog, Freedom. He will be greatly missed and warmly remembered by a host of relatives and dear friends. Jim's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mercy-St. Vincent Hospital and the Heart and Vascular Care Center for the wonderful care they provided over the last few days of his life. Also, the family would like to thank Sue and Dave Navarre, two very special people, whose kindness and understanding over the years can never be measured, and will never be forgotten. We also want to thank Dawn's lifelong friends, April and Missy, for being her dad's special angels and keeping him comfortable during this trying time. Per Jim's wishes he is being cremated and funeral services are private. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 8th at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 5153 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611.
