James R. Michaels

James R. Michaels died peacefully on June 18, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 85.

Jim was born in Toledo, Ohio to his parents, Edward and Agnes (Simek) Michaels on February 14, 1938. He grew up in Millbury, Ohio, and after graduating from Lake High School went to a trade school for Tool and Die.

Jim and Janet met through a shared interest in horses, were married on April 26, 1962, and had a family of daughters. Jim was a strong, quiet, respectable man and when he spoke, everyone listened! He was a family man and worked hard, first for Holtman and then for Ort as a Tool and Die Maker to provide for his family. He retired after 28 years with Ort.

On over 4 acres in Berkey, Jim lived out his retirement years working on small projects around the property. He was content to stay home and cook for the family as they came to visit. No one left hungry or empty handed as he happily shared a bottle of his homemade flavored vodka with all guests. He was known for his love for animals, especially his pet Rottweilers. He will be missed by his sweet Macie.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Melinda (Mike) Harris, Penny (Matt) Baker, Polly Alexander; grandchildren, Cody, Cara, Caylee, Michael; and brother, Edward (Vivian) Michaels. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; daughter Manda Kay; and his parents.
