James Russell Crawford, age 84, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Merit House Senior Community, where he had been living after his accident. Jim was born on June 9, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, to Hal Junior and Thelma Hazel (Diehn) Crawford. He graduated from Maumee High School and attended BGSU before joining the military.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Clark Air Force base, in the Philippines. While in the PI, Jim met the love of his life, Ramona Regal Velasco. The two were united in marriage on October 10, 1961, and shared more than 64½ years together. Jim was stationed in Monot, North Dakota, before moving to Toledo with his wife and son.
Jim was known as a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. He worked part-time on the railroad while also dedicating over 30 years of full-time service to Libbey-Owens-Ford (LOF) before his retirement. When he wasn't working, Jim enjoyed trips to the horse racetrack, playing cards, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Ramona (Regal) Crawford; two sons, Russell and Darrell Crawford; four sisters, Carol Carpenter, Susan (Gary) Lalendorff, Beverly (Derek) Steele, and Mary Beth Johnson; aunt, Virginia Ebright; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, and both parents.
The family wishes to thank the many good friends, Erleen, Dan, Earl, Edna, Jean and Mack, Julie Pia, Lina, Velma, and Jeff, Salvancion, Linda, Thelma, and Meureen, for their condolences, love, and support.
In addition, the family extends their gratitude the staff at Merit House, for the gentle care they provided Jim. As well as the staff at Sunrise Cremations and Funerals for their compassionate care during this difficult time.
