Ida Jean Cox

Ida Jean Cox, age 88 of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. She was born in Toledo on January 8, 1929 to John and Mae McNett. Jean met her husband of 58 years, Raymond, while working in the cantina at Willys-Overland. She was a devoted homemaker and the heart and soul of her family. Her favorite holidays were Christmas and St. Patricks Day, which she would spend surrounded by her loved ones. Jean enjoyed spending time at her cottage in the Irish Hills, playing cards, traveling and playing bunco. She was an avid sports fan, with a love of hockey, the Detroit Tigers, and Ohio State football. She also enjoyed playing pull tabs and scratch-off lottery tickets. Always the life of the party, you could often find her with family and friends drinking her Black Velvet. Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray, son, Dennis Cox, son-in law, Marvin Paxton, her parents, and sister Olive Lolly Collins. She leaves behind as her legacy her children, Ronald (Sharon Tucker) Cox, Connie Paxton, Peggy Mabrey, Gina (Steve) Mercer, Luann (Kevin Alexander) Davis, Beverly (Bob) Doty, and daughter-in-law, Erin Cox. Jean is also survived by her 20 loving grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and her brother, John (Patti Porter) McNett, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Witzler Shank Funeral Home (formally H. H. Birkenkamp) 3219 Tremainsville Rd (419-473-1301) on Friday, December 29 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A V.F.W. Post 2898 Auxiliary Service will begin at 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be Saturday in the funeral home at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery.
