Harold M. Pete Byrd Harold Maurice Byrd, age 88, of Perrysburg passed away May 2, 2016 at St. Lukes Hospital. Born June 21, 1927 to Margaret and Ernest L. Byrd, Harold lived in Toledo most of his life with a brief stint in Hollywood, California. Harold, also known as Pistol Pete, had a knack for fixing things starting at an early age. One of his favorite sayings was I can fix anything but a broken heart. He could often be found tinkering with cars and appliances; or staying up late to fix a neighbors water heater. Pete never shied away from hard work throughout his life. His list of employers include many years at Willys-Overland and Spiegel Construction. Pete loved his large and extended family. He was known to over fifty nieces and nephews as the favorite uncle. His grandchildren enjoyed childhood games of hide-and-seek at Grandpas house and always expected him to have a peppermint candy to share. Pete never met a person he couldnt say something nice about. He had a unique sense of humor and a joke to make anyone smile. He had friends in every corner of town. Pete put others before himself and was always willing to work on a friends car or help anyone with just about anything that might need fixed. Pete also had a special place in his heart for animals and adopted many dogs throughout his life. Later in his life, Pete was diagnosed with cancer. He fought long and hard, and beat cancer several times. He maintained a positive attitude and never uttered a complaint. His bravery was a comfort to those around him. A heartfelt thank-you goes out to his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Pam, who provided exceptional care for his medical needs in his last fifteen years. Pete is survived by his ex-wife and friend Mary Lou Bauer, his daughter Catherine (Keith) Horn, son Mike (Pam) Byrd, ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, brothers John (Donna) Byrd and Richard (Kristin) Shordt, and sisters Margaret Zuccarell and Florence Grandowicz, his special friend Jean Digby and special feline friend, Hope. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father, loving wife Dorothy, son Paul Joseph, grandson Gregory DeShetler, great-grandson Matthew Byrd, brothers Ernest Jr., Gail, James, and sisters Catherine Glander, Teresa Kirchner, Rose Kaminski, and Mary Ellen Fellers.
