George (Al) Wynn Sr., 93, of Holland, OH passed away peacefully in the morning hours of December 16, 2024, after a long life filled with love and laughter and a passion for his family and friends. Born in Findlay, OH, on November 18, 1931, to Earl Clark Wynn and Jennie May (Bartlett) Wynn, he graduated from Perry Local High School in East Liberty, OH. After graduation in 1949, he joined the military where he completed welding school in Atlanta, GA., April 7, 1950. In June of 1950 he was transferred to Brize Norton Air Force Base in England where he was assigned to the Engineer – Aviation Maintenance Division under the Air Force, a special division under NATO during the Korean War where he served until his return to the US in May 1952.
George hired on at the Pennsylvania Railroad on April 14, 1953 as a fireman on the Detroit, MI to Columbus OH runs on both the class J-1 yard steam engines, primarily the H-10 bomber steam engine and later on diesel engines until February 13, 1957 when he took a position at the Toledo Edison Company, working the majority of his 33 years as a meter reader as well as in collections in the latter part of his career before retiring in 1990.
On November 12, 1957, he married his late wife Edith E. Farmiloe-Tucker and was a loving and devoted husband of 44 years as well as a wonderful father to his three children, George Wynn Jr., (Deborah), Theresa Dietrich (Craig) and Steve Wynn (Shelley). George Sr, was also blessed with 4 grandchildren, Andrew Wynn, Haley Dietrich, Cayron and Ty Wynn. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Roy Wynn, Lloyd Wynn and sister Helen (Wynn) Welty and survived by his brothers Frank Wynn, Raymond Wynn as well as nieces and nephews, friend and companion Annette Harper.
George loved old school country and bluegrass music and was known to strum a few of his own toe tapping tunes now and then on one of his box guitars as well as an occasional Saturday night of Karaoke. His heartfelt love and compassion for the many fur-friends he cared for throughout the years was immeasurable. George leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion in all who knew him through his unwavering friendship, trust, support and dedication that he so freely gifted to his family and dearest friends throughout his life.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at UTMC ICU unit and Lakes Of Monclova care facility for their faithful care and commitment to George, our loving Father.
Friends will be received at The Ray Neville Chapel at Sunrise Life Celebrations, Holland (7438 Airport Hwy Holland, OH 43528) December 19, 2024, from 6pm-8pm. Services will be at Highland Memory Gardens (8308 S. River Rd. Waterville, OH 43566) December 20, 2024, at 11am.
