Gary Herren, age 78 of Toledo, Ohio, went to meet his Best Friend, Jesus, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. He was born on December 22, 1945 in Marion, Ohio. He was adopted shortly after birth by Gerald Herren and Elizabeth (Beach) Herren. His birth mother was Alice James. Gary graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1963 and attended the University of Toledo. He married Karen V. Kononen on November 16, 1973. Gary was a veteran and gifted musician and played an alto saxophone in the 555th Air Force National Guard Band for 21 years. He played with the" well-known "Imperial's Polka Band for many years before becoming self-employed as Gary's Band Instrument Repair, after working for many years at Penguin Music Store on Sylvania Ave and S Detroit Ave. Gary was a member of The Country Gospel Music Association and in recent years became a member of Polish American Concert Band. He received many awards for his musical accomplishments and went on to conduct concerts across the nation. Gary played his music to Honor God and share the message of salvation through his music and how he lived his life. He was extremely talented and knew no enemies; he was a great "Encourager" to his students and to all God's people-up until the last days of his life. He wanted God to be glorified in all he said and did. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Karen, sons, Dale Herren, Andy (Marie) Herren, and daughter, Desiree Herren-Seevers, and lifetime college friend, Tim Myers, grandchildren, Andy "AJ" (Sabrinia), Danielle, Megan, Victoria "Tori" (Isaiah), Cody (Alycia), Kyle, Matthew, Kaytlin, Morgan and McKenzie. twelve great grandchildren. and sister in law, Deanne Smale. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Elizabeth Herren, birth mother, Alice James, grandson, Jesse Herren and brother in law, Bruce Smale.Celebration of Life Service is at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 4930 Flanders Rd Toledo on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions in Gary's memory can be made to Trinity Church of the Nazarene or Disabled American Veterans or to donors choice.
