Woody lead a very interesting life, attending Hamilton School, Toledo Vocational School, Woodward High School, Toledo University, E.D.S. Course in Surface Design and Planography in Detroit and Art classes held at Toledo Museum of Arts. In 1935, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and helped build housing, roads, cave trails, a water system, and help set up communication systems for a dollar a day at one of the four camps in the Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. Woodys love of rock hunting, grinding, polishing, and slate carving were very useful during his time in the CCC. Fran was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, 71st Infantry and the 44th Infantry Division in Italy, France, Germany, and Belgium. While in the Army, he received the Combat Infantry Badge, Rifleman badge, Good Conduct Medal, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, Central Europe and EAME Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. After serving his country he went on to work as a Body Draftsman at Willys/Kaiser/American Motors and the Jeep Corporation for 33 years before retiring in 1975. Fran was a member of the Monroe Senior Center, Bedford Senior Center, Monroe County RSVP, National Association of CCC Alumni, and Monroe County Triad (Senior Police Academy). He was also active in Boy Scouts of America Troop #73. On November 29, 1941 he married his sweetheart, Doris H. Dot Landry. Dot and Fran were two peas in a pod and enjoyed volunteering. They enjoyed ice skating together, biking, swimming, and gardening. Together they received The RSVP Joseph Green Volunteer of the Year Award in 1996 from Monroe County, Michigan. Dot preceded him in death, December 15, 2007 and they can now be found dancing in the streets of heaven! Visitation will be on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at H.H.
