Fern Roberta Young

Fern Roberta (Tomblyn) Young, 68, of Walbridge, Ohio, passed away on July 18, 2026 surrounded by her family at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

She was born on February 10, 1958 in Buckhannon, West Virginia to Robert and Elnora (Poling) Tomblyn. Fern graduated from Buckhannon Upsher High School in 1976. She attended Fairmont State University in West Virginia in 1979 with an associate's degree in Outdoor Recreation Leadership.

She met her husband, Rick, through mutual friends. She was the maid of honor for her friend Linda and he was best man for his friend, Randy. Rick lived in Ohio and Fern in West Virginia, so they got to know each other and kept in touch by letter, phone and visits. They were married a year later on July 4, 1981.

Fern devoted many years as a homemaker and mother to their four children. She then worked as a lunch lady for 15 years at Penta Career Center.

Fern loved spending time with her kids and supporting them. She volunteered with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Science Olympiad, and Band Boosters. She attended countless concerts, sporting events, and musicals.

Fern had a deep love for baking, crafts, game nights, and reading. She also adored animals. Through the years her dogs Jasper, Sadie, and Singer have been her close companions.

She loved to travel, especially to visit her children and grandchildren. Whether near or far, she spent time with and loved on her grandkids, who called her "Grammie."

She was a member of Main Street Church. She served on Women's Missionary Fellowship, and the church's children's ministries.

She will be remembered for being welcoming, sociable, generous, and authentic and the impact she had on those around her.

She is survived by her children Andrea (Rob) Remele, Vanessa (Tony) Suk, Erin (Quincy) Hens, Jeremy (Megan) Young; grandchildren Gwen (Caleb) Gannon, Liam, Calvin and Penelope Remele, Tyler and Ryker Hens; siblings James (Sharon) Tomblyn, Bruce (Donna) Tomblyn, Karen (Todd) Tremblay, Kelly (Richard) Oberg. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Elnora Tomblyn, her brother Gary Tomblyn, and her husband Rick Young.

Fern will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A funeral will be held 11 am on July 24, 2026 at the Robert Shank, Sr. Chapel at Sunrise Cremations & Funerals in Walbridge. Visitation will be 4 pm- 8 pm on July 23, 2026.
