Evelyn S. Gyori, age 92 of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully on April 3, 2021 at The Elizabeth Scott Community. Evelyn was born in the Polish neighborhood off Lagrange Street in Toledo, Ohio on August 5, 1928 to Andrew and Josephine (Sodul) Kosnikowski. She spoke fluent Polish as her parents both emigrated from Poland. She attended St. Adelbert’s school and Woodward High School graduating in 1946. While in school, she worked at Menke’s bakery in the Polish neighborhood which partly inspired her love of baking. After graduation, she worked at Bostwick-Braun, Doehler-Jarvis then Libbey Glass retiring after 30 years. Evelyn met Emery, the love of her life at a dance and they married in 1951. In 1953, their daughter Bridget was born. Evelyn continued to work and was an excellent role model for her daughter as she was an accomplished cook and baker of Polish and Hungarian delicacies. Evelyn was also an excellent seamstress, knitter, crocheter, crafter and quilter and belonged to the Maumee Bay Quilters, donating quilts to women’s shelters. Fiercely competitive and independent, Evelyn was an accomplished league bowler and bowled for The Queens League locally. She also played in softball leagues. Evelyn was a feminist before it was popular. Later in life her energies focused on her cherished grandsons, Zachary and Peter Arquette. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Emery Gyori; brothers, Joseph and Tony Kosnikowski; sister, Mary Staczek; infant sisters, Virginia and Sophie and several cherished nieces and nephews. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Bridget (Les) Arquette; grandsons, Zachary and Peter Arquette along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who will all cherish her inspiration, kindness, generosity ad sense of humor the most. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Waterford at Levis Commons, Hospice of Northwest Ohio and the Elizabeth Scott Community for their care.
