Eva Joyce Riley

October 6, 1940 — February 19, 2021

Joyce was born in Toledo on October 6, 1940. She married Joseph Riley in 1958, and they remained faithfully together in love until she lost him in May 1999. On February 19, 2021 she rose up to join him once again, leaving behind their three children who find comfort in knowing their parents are together again. What a beautiful reunion that must have been. She remained alone after losing him even though she was only in her 50s. He was the only one for her. She talked often of her sister Juanita Mackey and brother James Shipp whom she lost in recent years. They are now together with their parents Nathan and Ida Eva (Street) Shipp. Joyce fought long and hard as she battled Parkinsons Disease for the last 10 years. She was a strong woman who amazed her doctors this last month as she overcame very tough odds and had improved so much that her daughter planned on bringing her home soon from the hospital after an illness. Joyce was a homemaker. Her family and home were her life, and she never desired more. She cherished making her childrens birthdays and holidays so special and set traditions that meant so much and made so many beautiful memories that they are carried on to this day. She was a huge animal lover, and her children inherited that trait. There were always pets, and they were always rescues. Her last dog Max was her best friend for 17 years, and if she went somewhere, you would see Max sitting in the passenger seat of her van. It is a beautiful thought to imagine all her pets she mourned for, greeting her once again. She leaves behind her sweet cat Boo Boo. Joyce leaves behind her; 3 children Joseph Riley of Virginia, Jodi Riley of Toledo, who was her constant caregiver for 10 years, and Jamie (William) Stricker of Florida; grandchildren Joseph Riley, Kayla Stricker, Kendall Stricker, and Billy Stricker; and great-grandchild Aiden. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, and loving friends. Special thanks to Lisa, Sharon, Cathy, and Heidi. Joyce went through so much as her body failed her, but through it all she was beautiful, with flawless smooth skin, a beautiful youthful smile, a voice that still sounded like a young woman, and with long silky platinum hair. Her children were and are so proud of her and how special she was. On her 80th birthday 4 months ago, she stood and danced to oldies as dear family friend Clayton helped hold her on her feet. It was a beautiful moment to cherish. Joyce will be so very missed in the physical. Jodis life is forever changed and will have a huge hole without her mother to watch over and take care of, to be a warrior for her every day. But her children know she no longer suffers, and they will be with her again one day. Until then Jodi, Jamie, and Joe will carry her with them always. Their love for each other will keep them connected, and she will never be completely gone. God will be taking good care of her now.In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in Joyce's memory to Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet (5250 Hill Ave, Toledo, OH 43615).
