Emma Marie Canales

Emma Marie Canales, age 81, of Walbridge, Ohio, passed away in the care of Maumee Pointe Assisted Living on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Emma was born to Jesse and Andrea (Miriles) Gonzales in Bustamante, Mexico on September 3, 1942. She married her loving husband, Homer Canales, on November 16, 1963, in Monroe, Michigan, and he precedes her in death. Emma was a longtime resident of Walbridge, where she raised her family.

Emma was a skilled beautician. She made a career of cutting and styling hair at a salon in Great Eastern Shopping Plaza in Northwood, Ohio. Emma enjoyed traveling with her husband to places like Hawaii, Mexico, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, and the Bahamas. She loved to watch movies – primarily the King Kong series, and Ten Commandments were a few of her favorites. The last couple of years one of her favorite things to do was going out to get pizza and a glass of wine with her loving sister, Virginia Rodriquez. She adored The A.N.G.E.L.S. Outreach Program, which she supported for the last 29 years. She enjoyed giving to charitable organizations like A.N.G.E.L.S., St. Jude and local veterans organizations. The Christmas holiday was her favorite time of the year. Her house looked like “ Winter Wonderland”. She loved having family over and celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. Most importantly, Emma loved spending time with her family, her love for her family was first, you could always find her praying for her children, grandchildren, and her siblings.

Emma is survived by her children, Steve Canales, Lisa ( Rier) Canales-Smith, and Victoria Canales. Grandchildren, Santino Canales, Celina Forbes, Stephen Flores, Dominck Flores, Angel Mia Korotnayi, Anthony Pratt, Andrew Pratt. Great Grandchildren, Lillie and Glenn Forbes, Gabriel Flores, Isabella, Sophia and Nova Flores, and Levi and Leo Korotnayi, Rhett Pratt. Siblings: Virginia (Simon) Rodriquez, Gracie (Rogelio) Hermandez, Irma (Bob) Guerrero, Roman (Sylvia) Gonzalez, Lydia Ruiz, and Nancy Rios. She was preceded in death by her husband Homer Canales, her parents Andrea and Jessie Gonzalez, sister Mary Rios, brothers Jessie Gonzalez Jr., Ceaser Gonzalez

Friends and family may be received from 2:00pm-8:00pm on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home – Walbridge, 701 N. Main Street, Walbridge, Ohio 43465. A funeral service performed by Rev. Brian Elmer for Emma will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Perrysburg Alliance Church, 10401 Avenue Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551.
