Edsel R. Rohlman, age 92, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at his sons home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 4, 1922 to Henry and Doris Rohlman. Edsel was a graduate of Whitmer High School in 1941. While in high school he played; basketball, golf and was on the football team. Since Whitmer didnt have a golf team, Edsel and 7 of his friends started the team. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during W. W. II. Edsel was employed at Dana Corp. for 41 years starting as a millwright and later in management. Ed was an avid golfer and made 4 holes in one along with 3 double eagles. He was a member of the Toledo Metro Umpires association Michigan High School Athletic Association and Ohio High School Athletic Association, receiving a 50 years award from Michigan High School Athletic Association. Ed was inducted in The Ohio Amateur Softball Association-Hall of Honor in 1998. He enjoyed all sports. Edsel also played for Toledo Federation Baseball and Basketball league. Edsel was an avid bowler, carrying an average of 187. Ed was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #5530, American Legion post #587 and Roman (Buddy) Frankowski Post. His memberships also included Robinson Locke #659, Fort Meigs Chapter #29, Grafton M. Acklin Council #127 (Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo). While working at Dana, he was the co-founder of Spicer Sports Club and was a Charter member, and also a member of Dana Quarter Century Club. Edsel was preceded in death by his wife, Lavon Betty Jane Rohlman, his parents, son, Gary Rohlman Sr., brothers, Russell and Wendel and brother-in-law, Albert Dally. Edsel is survived by his children, Linda (Dennis) Schafer, Debra (Lionel) Thompson-Blackman and Ricky (Joan) Rohlman. His beloved grandchildren, Kym (Albert), Tammy, Pamela (Robert), Billy (Jamie), Christopher (Tara), Tiffany (Steve), Joshua (Maria), David (Savanah), Tamara (Patrick), Scott (Marissa), Gary Jr. (Heather), Stephanie (Kevin), Phillip, Michelle (Tim). Edsel has 33 great grandchildren and 12 great, great grandchildren and his siblings Carol Dally and Wilber (Emma) Rohlman. Visitation for Edsel will be at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd (419-473-1301) on Thursday, Aug 28 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with American Legion service at 7:30 pm, visitation on Friday, August 29 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm with V.F.W. services beginning at 7:00 pm. Visitation on Saturday will be begin at 9:00 am and Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday. Pastor Luke Shortridge from CedarCreek Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd, Perrysburg, Ohio or to Mayfair Plymouth Church (Jr. and Sr. High youth groups). Edsels family would like to Thank nurse Vicki for her care and volunteer, Ron.
