Dorothy Mae Mcfarland

Dorothy M. McFarland age 90, passed away on Nov 17, 2018 peacefully in her home. Dorothy was born Dec 20, 1927 In Michigan City, IN, the daughter of Henry and Daisy Hert. She married Clarence McFarland, Sr. on Oct 20, 1946. He preceded her in death. Dorothy is survived by three sons, Clarence (Nadine) McFarland, Jr., of Peoria, IL, Dale McFarland and Keith Mwamba, both of Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Henry Hert, Jr. and Marie Cannady. She attended Indiana State University for two years. Dorothy worked for over 30 years for Ohio Employment Services. She tirelessly helped so many in the Toledo area in acquiring employment. She was also well known as an outstanding playwright for her uplifting and outstanding plays created through her own company called, Miracle Masterworks. She gave God the glory in every piece she wrote. She was also a Poet and painter, in her own right. Dorothy was quite the versatile and loving woman. She was also a community activist. She was very much engaged in the politics of the day, and strived to correct injustice anywhere. Last but not least, she loved, loved, loved her family. They always came first in her heart. Special thanks to her God daughter, Margie Hicks, for her loving and diligent care. We truly thank her for everything she did while she was in her care. Friends will be received on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 pm in Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home 1163 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo OH 43612 (419-269-1111). Burial will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
