Dorothy Alexander passed peacefully from this life on March 17, 2012. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years Carroll Kenneth CK Alexander. Dorothy was born in 1912 to Lulu and Louis Krepleever in Toledo, Ohio, the second of four sisters; Mary, Evelyn and Eleanor. A favorite family story was that Dorothy was nicknamed the G.D. baby because the doctor, who came to their home for the 3:00 A.M. birth, was overheard saying, What kind of a G.D. baby would be born in the middle of the G.D. night during a G.D. blizzard? His horse and buggy had gotten stuck in the rutted driveway. She graduated from Libbey High School and earned a degree in philosophy at the University of Toledo. During college she became a tennis champion and met her future husband, marrying in 1936. Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, crafts, bowling and fishing. She prided herself in staying physically fit and active throughout her life. On her 70th birthday she fulfilled her dream of riding in a hot air balloon in New Mexico. That same year she took up golf. At age 72 she got a hole-in-one and at 89, won her golf-club annual championship. Dorothy and CKs song, Side By Side, was the theme of their lives as they explored the U.S. in their travel trailer. They spent summers at Deep Lake in Michigan, vacations in Canada and retired in Ft. Meyers Beach, FL and later Las Cruces, NM. Dorothy often sang the chorus We just traveled onsingin our songside by side, as they embarked on their adventures. Dorothys final journey reunites her with CK and they now rest side by side. Dorothy is survived by her loving daughter, Carol Jones, of Waterville, Ohio and her granddaughters, Tamara Lynn (Neal Smith) Jones of Phoexix, Arizona and Jennifer Sue Jones of Las Cruces, New Mexico. A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers or cards please make memorial donations to the Alzheimers Association. Arrangements were made by H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home.
