Doris Dory Mccoy

Doris L. McCoy passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at her home at the age of 103. She was known as Dory by most of her friends. Dory was born December 18, 1910 to Marshall and Viola Kearns in Kenton, Ohio. She was a graduate of Ohio Northern University. Dory taught two years in a one room school house in Foraker, Ohio. Dory married Gerald F. McCoy (Mac) on April 10, 1933 and they were married for 59 years. Mac passed away June 1992. Dory and Mac owned and operated a Shell Station at Central and Cheltenham before starting McCoys Service in 1948, which is still in operation today. Dory and Mac traveled extensively through the United States and to foreign countries. They took many fishing trips on Lake Erie and into Canada. Dory was very active in many organizations and held high offices. She was a member of the Toledo Womens Club, St Lukes Hospital Auxiliary, Toledo Safety Council, BPW, Zonta and Zontas Oldies. She was a 56 years member of Hope Lutheran Church and was active in many church activities in her younger years. Dory loved playing cards with friends almost to the end. She was very sweet, dignified lady with a cute sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew her. Dory was preceded in death by her husband, sister and three brothers. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Dory was very fortunate to be cared for in her own home during her last remaining months, by her former neighbors, Ed and Peggy Spratt, who came from Florida to loving take care of her. To honor Dorys wishes, there will not be any visitation. Friends and family are asked to meet for services at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery (in the Mausoleum Chapel) off Talmadge Rd. on Saturday, February 22 from 11:00 am until time of funeral service beginning at 12:00 noon. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd. Perrysburg, Ohio 43551 or to Hope Lutheran Church, 2201 Secor Rd, Toledo, Ohio 43606.
